Fiesta Challenge Concours
A Concours d’Elegance is the common term used when Porsches or other cars are presented in competition for awards based upon their cleanliness, fitment, and overall condition. In Longhorn Region, we do not judge undercarriages or engine compartments that in the past have intimidated a lot of potential participants. I like to use the term “show & shine”, which for our local region purposes, removes the connotation of a full-blown concours. I use these terms synonymously so folks will clean up their Porsches, come out, and have fun showing their cars without any intimidation.
This is a fun and laid-back event where I’ve taken several PCA concours groups (Restoration, Preservation, Preparation, and Performance) and combined aspects of each into a single judging sheet. By combining several groups, I have made a judging sheet that covers many models. Since we hardly ever get the wide range of Porsches larger regions usually have participating, this helps to speed up the judging process and still provide for equal competition.
All entries will be judged using the same sheet except they will be put in classes with Porsches similar to each other. Depending on the number and model of Porsche, the cars are placed in a competing category. In some instances where few entries are received, models are put in another class for competition purposes. It is hoped that more than one car will be in each class, thereby, creating the competition for that class.
This is an opportunity for all of us see your Porsches. The entry fee is only $15 per car and the thrill of winning an award for having a nicely prepared Porsche is well worth the effort. A copy of the judging sheet is included in the newsletter so you know ahead of time what will be judged. An example of classes is below:
- 4 cylinders (356, 914, and 912’s)
- Early 911, 1965-1973
- 911’s and SC’s 1974-1983
- 1984-1989 Carrera’s
- Boxster’s
- Cayman’s (Boxster’s & Cayman’s’ may be combined due to number of entries)
- 993’s, 993 Turbos, 996’s, 996 Turbos, 997’s
- Cayennes
- Race /Modified
Specific classes cannot be determined until after registration closes. Your prompt registration allows me to get the required number of awards for the event, which takes approximately a week or ten days. The deadline for Registering (RSVP) is 25 April 2008. If not registered by 25 April, you can still enter and pay your fee, but no award will be presented.
There will also be an area for display cars not entered in the concours. These will not compete for awards and will be “display only”.
In my 39+ years in PCA, I have found Porsche members to be some of the most competitive folks I have ever been involved with. Register and let us see your Porsche and provide the competitive spirit that I know is in all of you. I can be reached at 210-654-6639 or president@longhornpca.org.
